MCC ( Marylebone Cricket Club ) has announced the new set of law
1) Red card for players:
Let me explain
While we understand the urge for aggression but sometimes players cross the line. The very same line which used to differentiate this sport from the rest, back in the day. And the reason why Cricket is called as gentlemen’s game.
The new law gives Umpires the power to send any player off the field for misconduct or in short it’s punishment for rude behavior.
If a player is found making deliberate physical contact with an opponent or throwing the ball at him, 5 runs will be awarded to the opposite team as a penalty.
Also, if the player tries to intimidate the umpire, along with the penalty of 5 runs, the player will be asked to leave the field for 5 overs.
An act of violence would lead to a suspension for the entire match.
2) Size of bats
Laws that will govern the size of cricket bats used
According to the new code, the dimensions of the bat will be restricted to 108mm in width, 67mm in depth and with 40mm edges.
This new code will be issued on the 1st of October.
3) Changes in the run out law
The law is meant to protect the batsman whose bat has bounced in the air once they have crossed the crease.
“If the bat (held by the hand) or another part of the batsman’s person is grounded beyond the popping crease and this contact with the ground is subsequently lost when the wicket is put down, the batsman will be protected from being run out if he/she is running or diving and has continued forward momentum towards the stumps and beyond.”
The change here is that a batsman will not be given out if his/her bat has been grounded, crossed the line and then bounces in the air while the stumps are broken
